We have many desires. We have a lot of good and bad desires. Through Hadith of the day, we are discussing the hadith narrated by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about human desires.

Report from Abdullah ibn Abbas and Anas ibn Malik. The Prophet (PBUH) said: "If a man had a valley of gold, he would have two valleys, and he could not fill his mouth except with dust (His greed will only end with death). GOD accepts the repentance of the repentant." (Muttafaqun alaihi)
The essence of Hadith of the day?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said in this hadith about the desires of human beings. The Prophet teaches us that man's desires will never end. Also, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) teaches us that when a person repents to Allaah, he (Allah) will receive his repentance.
What we need to understand from Hadith of the day
If we examine our own lives, we will be able to understand the desires of man. Let me tell you my own story. When I was in Arabic college (10 years ago) mobile phones were very rare. My desire was to own at least one mobile phone. Ten years later, today I own a smartphone worth Rs 11,000. But I still want to buy a more expensive smartphone.
I think you have the same nature as me. Our desires are infinite. Our desires are never going to end. This is exactly what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said 1400 years ago. It is our death that ends our desires.
What do we lose because of desires?
Have we ever looked at the living conditions around us ?. Have we ever wondered how those around us live? Our desires are the result of not thinking about any of this. We are not aware of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us out of unquenchable desire. We forget to thank Him for the blessings He has given us.
Have we ever considered the prayers of you and me? What do we think when we stand before Allah? What plans do we have? What goals do we dream of?
What was the life of the Prophet (PBUH) like?
Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the greatest man in the world. What was the life of that prophet like? Was not his life full of troubles? Has the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) been able to enjoy good food or accommodation, even though he was a member of the Islamic world?
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was not unable to enjoy comforts. The Prophet was surrounded by millions of followers who were ready for anything. All the Prophet needed to do was ask them something. Had he done so, the Prophet would have enjoyed the greatest comforts of that time. If the Prophet had asked, the mountains would have turned to gold. But the Prophet (PBUH) did not do any of this. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) gave up all desires (dunyavi).
We can see the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) apologizing to his father when Fatima Beavis (ra), the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), asked her father to give her a maid. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never encouraged the comforts of this world.
How the Sahaba lived?
The life of the Companions was a copy of the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Poverty was their hallmark. They all wanted the nearness of Allah. That was their only goal. They were the ones who controlled their desires. That is what we cannot do.
What should we do?
Desires are human companions, and life must have a purpose. But nothing should be overdone. We must be able to control our desires. If we have more desires, we will not remember the blessings that Allah has given us now. Our goal in the hereafter should be success, and our actions should be for that.
In short, a Hadith of the day is a truth about the desires of human beings. Our desires should never go out of bounds. Do not want anything inappropriate. Our greatest desire should be Allah and His Prophet. What matters to us is not the life of this world, but the life of the Hereafter.
